Lara Croft & the Temple of Osiris: First Impressions

Thanks to what I can only assume was a slight boo-boo on my local game store’s part, I received my copy of Lara Croft & the Temple of Osiris (Gold Edition) almost a week ahead of its official release date and ended up spending part of my weekend playing through the first few sections of the game in both single-player and two-player co-op mode. Without spoiling too much, I thought I’d share my first impressions of the game with you and post some of the screenshots I took in-game. ... [Continue Reading]

The Archaeology of Tomb Raider is kicking off a new round of fan interviews with this interview with Plexippus, one of my favourite Twitch broadcasters. Let’s hear what he has to say about the Tomb Raider franchise and its leading lady. So, tell us a little about yourself. I’m a new broadcaster on Twitch.tv and go by the handle Plexippus. Never Alone: An Adventure in Storytelling & Cultural Preservation

If you were to believe certain news outlets and religious organisations, video games are responsible for many of modern-day’s social ills. They glorify violence, promote sexism, and can turn us into dangerous loners who can go off on a murderous rampage at the drop of a hat. Not only are these absurd claims completely unfounded, they do a real disservice to the gaming industry as a whole. Like the film and television industries, games can be whatever their developers want them to be. ... [Continue Reading]

Review: Tomb Raider #7

After a somewhat disappointing first story arc, Dark Horse Comics’ Tomb Raider comic series kicked off a brand new story arc in August 2014 with Tomb Raider #7. Co-written by comic writer Gail Simone and acclaimed game writer and long-time Tomb Raider afficionada Rhianna Pratchett, “Losing Her Grip!” (or is it “In Memoriam”?) is the first part of a new story arc that promises a return to the globe-trotting adventures of yesteryear. I’ll admit that I’m ... [Continue Reading]

Meet the Main Characters of Lara Croft & the Temple of Osiris!

As the release date of the much-anticipated Lara Croft & the Temple of Osiris edges ever closer, Crystal Dynamics have finally released some more background information on the game’s main characters. While we’re all very familar with Ms Croft (who seems to be in her early 30s in this incarnation), the game’s other three main characters have been a bit of a mystery thus far. So here’s an introduction to the Temple of Osiris’ four playable characters! LARA ... [Continue Reading]

Hunted: A Fan Film Based on Tomb Raider

When rumours of a new Tomb Raider film failed to come to fruition, fans wasted no time filling in the void in their fandom. Last year, we were treated to Croft, a 20-minute film shot in British Columbia, Canada, and starring Cassandra Ebner. And now there’s another fan-produced film on the horizon: Hunted. Hunted is the brainchild of a group of talented actors, artists, and writers and is based on the hugely successful Tomb Raider 2013. Written by Kate Sykes and directed by Josh Pate, ... In the Spotlight: Eldin M

So, tell us a little about yourself. My name is Eldin and I am from Bosnia and Herzegovina, a country in the heart of the Europe. I am 21 years old and a gamer from the heart, but, most of all, I am a big fan of Tomb Raider. In my free time, I like to write all kind of stories and, of course, play games. When and how did you learn about the Tomb Raider series? I remember that I was in 6th grade of elementary school. Back then, we had PlayStation Clubs and I was so hooked that my parents were ... In the Spotlight: Stella

So, tell us a little about yourself. I’m Stella and I live in upstate New York, about 100 miles north of New York City. I’m in my 40’s and married, with a soon-to-be 21-year-old son. I run several walkthrough sites. You may be familiar with Stella’s Tomb Raider Site, though I also have guides for LEGO Indiana Jones and Space Colony. I’m addicted to social media in its myriad forms, and I struggle against my couch-potato nature every blessed day. When and how did ... [Continue Reading]

In the Spotlight: Findlay G

So, tell us a little about yourself. I’m 15 years old and, I’d imagine, one of the younger fans of the Tomb Raider series. I have an unhealthy addiction to video games (obviously Tomb Raider is among them), computers, and other types of technology. When and how did you learn about the Tomb Raider series? I learned about the series when I was probably 7 or 8, when my brother had TR1 for PS1. If I can remember correctly, he had played the first couple of levels or so before I got my hands ... Book Review: The Amulet of Power by Mike Resnick

Back in 2003 and 2004, during the period I’ve come to call “The Dark Ages”, Del Rey published three spin-off novels based on the popular Tomb Raider video game and film series. Core Design’s last Tomb Raider game, The Angel of Darkness, and Paramount’s The Cradle of Life had both failed to live up to expectations so the future of the franchise was already hanging in the balance when the first novel, Mike Resnick’s The Amulet of Power, was published. Now that ... [Continue Reading]

“Tomb Raider: The Ten Thousand Immortals” Novel Coming This Autum

This novel is now available to purchase on Amazon and Amazon UK. BradyGames have announced that a brand new Tomb Raider novel will be coming our way later this year. Written by the bestselling author and comic book writer Dan Abnett and his partner Nik Vincent, Tomb Raider: The Ten Thousand Immortals will continue and build upon the events of Tomb Raider 2013 and, like the ongoing comic series, will become canon within Crystal Dynamics’ reboot timeline. Little is known about the ... [Continue Reading]

So, tell us a little about yourself. Hi! My name is Gabriel and I’m a 13-year-old from the West Midlands, England. I love to draw a lot but my biggest passion is Tomb Raider! I think that I might be one of the youngest Tomb Raider fans out there. When and how did you learn about the Tomb Raider series? Well, I learnt about it from my dad. He used to play the games when I was younger and I used to love to watch him play! I can remember snippets of Angel of Darkness but I was around 3 ... [Continue Reading]

In the Spotlight: Jason Croft

So, tell us a little about yourself. My name is Jason, I live in the south of England and I’m 14 years old so I am probably one of the younger Tomb Raider fans. I love playing games, cosplaying and talking to people with the same interests as myself. When and how did you learn about the Tomb Raider series? My dad works for a big computer company and was trying to help out a client with something. In short, the company did not help out the best way it could have and, as an apology, gave ... In the Spotlight: Sandra F

So, tell us a little about yourself. I’m 28 years old and I’m a social sciences teacher and lawyer from Paraguay. When and how did you learn about the Tomb Raider series? I guess it was when I was about 13 years old. I played it at my cousin’s house because he was the only one who had a PlayStation in my neighbourhood at that time. Do you run a Tomb Raider fansite or blog? If so, what would you say was your biggest achievement to date? Yes, I, or should I say *we*, have a Facebook ... [Continue Reading]

Square Enix Announces “Rise of the Tomb Raider”

Update: Crystal Dynamics’ Head of Studios has announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider will now be an Xbox exclusive (though perhaps only a timed exclusive).  E3 2014 has gotten off to an exciting start for Tomb Raider fans everywhere! Square Enix announced today that Rise of the Tomb Raider, the sequel to Tomb Raider 2013, will be out in late 2015 for all next-gen consoles (or possibly not) and that the story will delve into Lara’s inner turmoil and motivations as she tries to ... In the Spotlight: Dominic C

So, tell us a little about yourself. I’m a freelance writer in my early 20s, spending too much money on comics, vinyl, games, movies, and milkshakes. When and how did you learn about the Tomb Raider series? Growing up in the 90s, it was inevitable that I’d come across Lara. It first started by watching my friends play, and watching other people play games was my introduction into the pixel land. It was a great bonding experience, one that I feel online multiplayer has detracted from. ... [Continue Reading]
