Jean Michel Thery’s “Well of Tears” Model

Regular visitors to this blog will probably be familiar with Jean Michel Thery’s stunning Tomb Raider models, such as this Egyptian tomb model inspired by Last Revelation or this model of an Angkorian temple. For this beautiful work of art, Jean Michel drew inspiration from Tomb Raider 2013 and created a model based on the “Well of Tears”, one of the tombs hidden away in the island’s shantytown. If you look at the fine attention to detail on each of the relics in the ... [Continue Reading]

Guest Blog: Why I Love Lara Croft, the Tomb Raider

In her guest blog, Shanthini explains what makes Lara Croft a good role model for young women (and men) and how Lara has inspired her to learn more about archaeology and ancient history. ********* It’s no secret that Lara Croft is one inspiring character. It doesn’t matter whether she’s fictional or not, she’s a fantastic role model. It doesn’t matter that she’s a little video game character, she’s been my idol for a couple of years now. Arte-Factual: Metal Inro (Tomb Raider 2013)

It’s been a while since I last wrote about an artefact from Tomb Raider 2013. Over a month, in fact. These cases, ... [Continue Reading]

Arte-Factual: Kansu Burial Urn (Tomb Raider 2013)

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for another edition of Arte-Factual! Last time, we looked at the killer whale bottle from Tomb Raider: Anniversary and learnt a little about the Nasca, their beliefs, and their art. This time we’ll be taking a close look at one of the many collectable items found in Tomb Raider 2013: the Kansu burial urn. The “Kansu burial urn” bears a striking resemblance to a ceramic jar in the Asia Society’s collection, a Banshan type storage ... [Continue Reading]

Who Should Be Cast in the New Tomb Raider Film?

As many of you may already know, GK Films and MGM have hired Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer and co-producer Marti Noxon to work on the script for their upcoming Tomb Raider reboot film. It’s not yet clear whether the film will be a big-screen adaptation of Tomb Raider 2013 or an all-new adventure set after Ms Croft’s ordeal on Yamatai but fans will no doubt be looking forward to finding out who will be cast as our beloved female “archaeologist”. So, folks, who do ... [Continue Reading]
