The game’s PS4 release was strongly hinted at when a list of trophies appeared online earlier this week but its release was officially announced at the 2016 PlayStation Experience. And ... 15 Awesome Tomb Raider Easter Eggs

One of the greatest pleasures in video gaming is the discovery (intentional or otherwise) of “Easter eggs”, those little jokes, secret levels, or hidden messages that game developers insert in their games for the players’ amusement. With a back catalogue spanning almost two decades and across multiple platforms, the Tomb Raider series has had its fair share of “Easter eggs”, ranging from humourous references to fan community in-jokes to visual gags that may be ... Never Alone: An Adventure in Storytelling & Cultural Preservation

If you were to believe certain news outlets and religious organizations, video games are responsible for many of modern-day’s social ills. They glorify violence, promote sexism, and can turn us into dangerous loners who can go off on a murderous rampage at the drop of a hat. Not only are these absurd claims completely unfounded, they do a real disservice to the gaming industry as a whole. Like the film and television industries, games can be whatever their developers want them to be. ... [Continue Reading]

Lara Croft: Reflections Has Been Axed

If you were hoping for a worldwide release of Lara Croft: Reflections, your hopes have officially been dashed. After months of speculation about the game’s fate, RenRen Games announced today that the game’s servers will be shut down on 5th August 2014. It’s perhaps not surprising that Lara Croft: Reflections failed to live up to peoples’ expectations. Although it was soft-launched last December, few fans knew of its existence due to a lack of promotion or official ... [Continue Reading]

Arte-Factual: The Mouth of Truth (Tomb Raider Chronicles)

Tomb Raider Chronicles was possibly my least favourite game of the Tomb Raider series. Sure, it had fewer glitches and better controls than its ill-received successor Angel of Darkness but it offered nothing new in terms of gameplay aside from a couple of new moves and its short, episodic nature made it feel more like an expansion pack than a standalone game. Having said that, Chronicles did have one major redeeming factor: the fact that three of its levels were set in Rome. Rome is one of my ... [Continue Reading]

Square Enix Launches Lara Croft: Reflections

UPDATE: RenRen Games have announced that the game’s servers will be shut down in August 2014. Based on this, it now seems very unlikely that Lara Croft: Reflections will be released worldwide as previously planned.  When Square Enix trademarked the name Lara Croft: Reflections in March 2013, it sparked a flurry of speculation within the Tomb Raider fan community. Was it the name of the upcoming sequel to 2013’s reboot game? Could it be an expansion pack or DLC? Was it the name of ... [Continue Reading]

Tomb Raider I Now Available on iOS

Christmas has come early for iPad and iPhone owners as Square Enix confirmed today that Tomb Raider 1 has been released for iOS. And if that wasn’t enough, the game even includes the two bonus chapters, “Shadow of the Cat” and “Unfinished Business”, from the 1998 re-release Tomb Raider Gold. The iOS release has been optimized for the iPhone 5 but is compatible with iPhones, iPads and iPod Touchs running iOS 7.0 and players will be able to control Lara and the ... [Continue Reading]
