10 Things I’d Like to See in the Next ‘Tomb Raider’ Game

Many moons ago, I put together a wish list for a sequel to Tomb Raider (2013) and, oddly enough, most of the items on that list ended up being gameplay features in Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, or both. And while a new Tomb Raider game has yet to be confirmed, I thought I’d have some fun in the meantime and think about what I’d like to see and do in Lara’s next outing. 1) Maintain the current balance of combat/exploration/puzzles – For all my ... The new statue was teased during Weta Workshop’s Comic-Con at Home event and shows Lara Croft dealing with a pesky velociraptor. #LiveMoreLara: An Interview With Noelle ‘Pfangirl’ Adams

In the absence of any substantial Tomb Raider news, I thought I’d devote some time to getting in touch with other fan community members to learn more about their projects and how they feel about the current state of the Tomb Raider franchise and fan base. Back in January, I contacted artist and Blender model designer Jason Chester to find out how he created his incredible low-polygon models based on the first two Tomb Raider games. This time around, I decided to interview one of my ... [Continue Reading]

Arte-Factual: Burial Doll Replica

In the previous edition of Arte-Factual, I looked at Mexican sugar skulls, a folk art tradition that combines Christian religious practices with ancient Mesoamerican beliefs. This time around, I thought I’d turn my attention to the burial doll replica Lara Croft comes across in the remote town of Kuwaq Yaku in the jungles of Peru. While doing my preliminary research for this article, I discovered that the burial doll in Shadow of the Tomb Raider is modelled after Chancay dolls, which were ... [Continue Reading]

Taste Raider: Poc Chuc

During one of her many optional side quests in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara Croft comes across the recently-widowed Xoco, a resident of the Hidden City whose husband Sumaq had been murdered under suspicious circumstances. While Lara conducts her investigation into Sumaq’s murder, Xoco tells the inquisitive adventurer that she had been planning to make Poc Chuc for her husband. That is, before he met his grisly end. A quick Google search revealed that Poc Chuc was, in fact, a dish ... [Continue Reading]

Jason Chester’s ‘Tomb Raider II’ Low-Poly Blender Models

Earlier this year, I interviewed Tomb Raider fan and Blender model designer Jason Chester to learn more about his incredible series of low-polygon models based on the groundbreaking 1996 game. And, as promised, he went on to create a series of models based on the 1997 sequel, completing this mammoth task in late May 2020. The attention to detail is mind-blowing and keen-eyed fans will be able to spot a secret or two hidden away in some of his creations. Some of my personal favourites have been ... [Continue Reading]

‘Tomb Raider’ Film Sequel Set For March 2021 Release

The 2018 Tomb Raider film may not have made a massive impact at the box office or had the same cultural impact as the earlier Angelina Jolie films but it appears to have done well enough – domestically and internationally – to earn itself a sequel, which is currently slated for a March 2021 release. Alicia Vikander’s debut outing as the intrepid adventurer enjoyed moderate financial success back in spring 2018, earning $274 million on a $94-million budget, and many long-time ... In this edition of Tomb Raider Horizon’s food-centric feature, Taste Raider, we will take a closer look at the chuño, the freeze-dried potato product that pre-dates the Inca Empire and ...
