Lara Croft will be making her epic return to the world of mobile gaming this month in the action-packed and highly stylized Tomb Raider Reloaded! The game was originally announced back in November 2020 and has only been available in a handful of countries until now. Tomb Raider Reloaded will be released to the rest of the world on a day that’s very special to Tomb Raider fans: Lara’s birthday, February 14.
The game was developed by Canadian studio Emerald City Games and was heavily inspired by the heroine’s globetrotting adventures of the 1990s, right down to the twin pistols and signature shorts.
Travel through the golden arch-shaped doors of the treacherous underground tombs, across hazardous mountain caves, flourishing jungles and lush waterfalls.
On your quest you’ll avoid hidden traps, discover ancient relics, solve a wide variety of puzzles and face off against different enemies and bosses (is that a T-Rex I hear!?) both new and familiar to the Tomb Raider series including bloodthirsty wolves, poisonous snakes, fearsome golems and magical elemental creatures!
While the game’s aesthetics harken back to the games of the Core Design era, the gameplay is radically different. The gameplay “features roguelike and procedurally generated stages for a new and varied experience with every run” and gamers will have the chance to upgrade and customise Lara’s abilities and gear as they progress through each level. And, yes, this even includes some cosmetic upgrades, such as Lara’s iconic bomber jacket from Tomb Raider II.

Collectable relics, unlockable features, community events, and a steady stream of new content promise to offer considerable replay value and a myriad of reasons to log in regularly. A word of warning, though: the game will also offer a range of in-app purchases, so please exercise caution if you’re allowing any children or at-risk individuals to play the game on your device.
Tomb Raider Reloaded is aimed at a general audience but is clearly a love letter to the earlier days of the franchise and its fans. The game will include an original orchestral soundtrack that pays homage to the classic themes of the Core games. What’s more, Keeley Hawes has reprised her role as Lara Croft for Reloaded. Fans will recognise her dulcet tones from games such as the 2006 soft reboot Tomb Raider: Legend and, most recently, the 2014 spin-off game Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. And keep an eye out for some familiar faces from Lara’s other adventures!
Fans hoping for a more puzzle-oriented game may be left disappointed; the gameplay is fast paced and combat heavy and the puzzles can be solved with the tap of a finger. If you’re looking for a more leisurely gaming experience, you will love the 2015 game Lara Croft GO, which is available for a variety of mobile platforms, Steam, and PlayStation.
Tomb Raider Reloaded will be available for download for iOS and Android as from February 14 and will also be available to play on Netflix’s games service, minus the pesky ads and in-app purchases. Android users have the chance to unlock the Golden Edition dual pistols if they pre-register before the 14th.
