Writer Belinda Garcia has joined Crystal Dynamics’ growing team of talent. She recently celebrated her first day as the studio’s new Game Writer and Narrative Designer, where she will be “working on the future of Tomb Raider“.
Garcia’s resumé includes Sledgehammer Games’ 2021 first-person shooter Call of Duty: Vanguard and the 2021 indie game Stonefly, an action-adventure game where you can pilot a tiny mech suit through a lush forest world populated with beautiful flora and giant insects.
Belinda Garcia’s tweet was accompanied by some cute artwork from Éva Enriquez, which depicts Lara receiving a “Welcome” cake from Vanguard’s Polina Petrova and Stonefly protagonist, Annika Stonefly.
She went on to say in a subsequent tweet: “I feel so fortunate to be a part of this franchise. Excited, honored — every wonderful feeling. This team is filled with so many talented and wonderful people and I can’t believe I get to be one of them. Grateful grateful grateful.”
We don’t know much about the next Tomb Raider game besides the fact that it is being built on Unreal Engine 5, that the IP is now under the ownership of the Sweden-based Embracer Group, and that the game will be published by Amazon Games, but I look forward to seeing what Belinda Garcia brings to the table. She has a proven track record of writing headstrong, witty female characters, making her an excellent choice for the franchise.
