‘Shadow of the Tomb Raider’ DLC Pack 1: The Forge

During his interview with Inside Xbox in September 2018, Crystal Dynamics’ Senior Brand Director Rich Briggs talked about Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s monthly DLC packs, which will kick off with the first DLC adventure, titled “The Forge”.

“We want to make sure that we continue to tell stories in Lara’s world. And so we have seven different DLC packs – one will drop every single month – and each one of them will give Lara a new skill, a new weapon, a new outfit, and, most importantly, a new tomb that she has to overcome. So we try and wrap them up into a little bit of narrative fiction and give you this nice adventure that expands the world and some of the characters that you met in the core story.”

“The first drop that we’re going to do is called “The Forge”. This is when one of the characters that you met along the core story, named Abby, will realise that her grandmother left her a map that’s filled with secrets. I don’t want to spoil anything but, basically, Lara is going to have to explore a deadly tomb that, as you can imagine from the title, has a lot to do with fire. And she is going to have to plumb its steps, survive it, and then she’ll be rewarded with the Grenadier skill, some new silenced outfits, and some silenced weaponry, which will give her the upper hand when she’s fighting Trinity.” (Rich Briggs, September 2018)

Please note that at the time of filming, “The Forge” was scheduled to be released in October. Tomb Raider fans will now need to wait until November 13 to uncover the long-lost secrets of this fiery challenge tomb, which will be incorporated into the Kuwaq Yaku hub.

In addition to this lava-filled death trap, which can be played solo or in co-op mode, “The Forge” will herald the return of the Score Attack and Time Attack modes, which proved to be fairly popular with those who played (and replayed) Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Here’s hoping we’ll see a co-op Endurance Mode making its triumphant return in future DLC releases.

“The Forge” will be available as a free download to Shadow of the Tomb Raider Season Pass holders as from November 13, but it will also be available for purchase as a standalone DLC pack. Please check your local PlayStation, Microsoft, or Steam stores for more information.
