The long-awaited follow-up to Rise of the Tomb Raider will finally be hitting PS4, Xbox One, and PC this September and Square Enix has kicked off the countdown to the game’s full reveal, which is scheduled for April 27.
On March 19, the official Tomb Raider site got the ball rolling by launching a weekly series of puzzles, dubbed “Path of the Stars”, and then on March 30, the company treated fans to a sneak peek at Lara Croft in Shadow of the Tomb Raider by releasing the first piece of promotional artwork for the upcoming game.
The artwork shows our daring heroine balancing precariously on a tree branch in what appears to be the Central American jungle, brandishing a machete, and sporting all of her now-iconic equipment (her bow, arrows, and climbing axes). In the background, the ruins of a Maya temple can be seen looming over the dense jungle foliage and the sky is lit dramatically as a result of a solar eclipse.
Will the eclipse play a critical role in the game’s story? Perhaps we’ll learn more about the importance of this astronomical phenomenon and its role in Lara’s latest adventure when Square Enix officially reveal the game to the world later this month.
In the meantime, you can find high-resolution versions of this image to use as your desktop/smartphone wallpapers or social media profile pics over on the Tomb Raider Flickr account.
