Eisner Award-winning writer Mariko Tamaki’s new Tomb Raider comic series is set to launch later this month and will be picking up where Rise of the Tomb Raider left off.

It’s not yet clear whether the events of the game will be referenced in this new series, given that the Dark Horse website describes it as “a perfect jumping-on point for new readers”, but the first issue’s synopsis suggests that our heroine will be continuing her search for the world’s secrets of immortality.

Lara Croft is pursuing a lost truth about the world that just might unlock the secret to defeating death! She becomes entangled in a search for a rare mushroom said to grant immortality and a lethal new enemy that just won’t die!

The cover art and synopses for the first three issues hint that Lara and Jonah will be travelling to China in search of said mushroom (which may be the Lingzhi mushroom used in traditional Chinese medicine), where they will encounter the hilariously-named (but deadly) Knights of the Spore.

Dark Horse recently released a 3-page preview of the upcoming comic, which features art by Phillip Sevy (The Tithe) and colourist Michael Atiyeh (Tomb Raider, Conan the Avenger).

Artist Agustin Alessio (Star Wars: Legacy) has lent his talents as cover artist for at least the first three issues of the new series and collectors will be happy to hear that there will be a variant cover for issue 1, a Dark Horse 30th anniversary edition courtesy of Joelle Jones (Lady Killer, Helheim).
