First Look at ‘Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch’ Story DLC

Tomb Raider fans who tuned in to watch The Game Awards on Thursday 3rd December were treated to the world premiere of Rise of the Tomb Raider’s new story DLC, Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch.

The Baba Yaga DLC promises 3 hours of new gameplay and looks set to embrace the franchise’s more supernatural elements. Creepy ghouls, hallucinogenic pollen, new characters, a new outfit and bow, a new puzzle-filled tomb to explore, and a retelling of the classic Russian myth, this story-based DLC will give fans plenty to chew on.

Official synopsis: Deep in the wilds of Siberia lies a forest that no man will enter, where a Soviet expedition vanished without a trace. Lara enters the Wicked Vale in search of a missing man, but she finds a nightmare that defies explanation. Is the witch, Baba Yaga, haunting the forest? Or is there more to the myth? Featuring three hours of new gameplay, Lara will face new adversaries, explore a new tomb, solve a decades old mystery, and face off against an ancient evil. Includes a new outfit, and a new bow.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Russian folklore, Baba Yaga is a fearsome-looking witch who’s said to live deep in the forest in a chicken-legged hut. Morally ambiguous and just as likely to help you as hinder you, her preferred mode of transport is a giant pestle and mortar and, according to some sources, she’s a guardian of the Fountain of the Waters of Life.

It’ll be interesting to see the team’s unique spin on this enigmatic figure and find out how this new mini-adventure fits into the reboot series’ mythos.

Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch will be available to Rise of the Tomb Raider Season Pass holders in January 2016.
