With less than three weeks to go until the Rise of the Tomb Raider’s Xbox release date, Crystal Dynamics have finally published some short character bios as part of their Instagram Experience.
Further details will no doubt follow in the coming weeks but for now, let’s meet the cast of Rise of the Tomb Raider.
** Spoiler Warning: This post contains minor spoilers. Scroll down at your own discretion. **
Lara Croft
A lady that really needs no introduction. Our heroine will begin to embrace her destiny and attempt to finish what her father, Richard Croft, started. Armed with her father’s notes and her own research into immortality myths, Lara will be pitted against the sinister organisation Trinity in her quest to find the lost city of Kitezh and the Divine Source.
Jonah Maiava
One of the few Endurance crewmates to escape Yamatai alive, Jonah will once again be putting his life at risk as he joins Lara on her expedition to snowy Siberia. The two are separated by an avalanche very early on in the game and Jonah’s fate at this moment in time remains unknown.
Richard Croft
Lara’s somewhat eccentric father, Lord Richard Croft, was once a renowned historian and is thought to have died under mysterious circumstances. His growing obsession with immortality myths upon the death of his wife (Lara’s mother) not only cost him his reputation as a scholar but also quite possibly his life. Will Lara find out who was responsible for his sudden death?
Ana
Briefly mentioned in Tomb Raider #18, Ana is Richard Croft’s former lover and still keeps in contact with the younger Croft. It’s not clear how big a role she will play in Rise but, in an early cut-scene, she is seen trying to dissuade Lara from heading down the same self-destructive path that consumed (and ultimately killed) Richard. That said, the Tomb Raider series has a long history of untrustworthy blondes. Will Ana turn out to be more than she seems..?
The Remnants
The Remnants are a local resistance movement based in Siberia and are the protectors of the Divine Source, the mystical artefact at the heart of Lara’s latest adventure.
Jacob
One of the characters Lara will encounter in Siberia is Jacob, the spiritual leader and healer of the Remnants. With the Remnants’ intimate knowledge of the area, Jacob and his followers may prove to be valuable allies in Lara’s search for Kitezh… if she is able to gain their trust.
Sofia
Sofia, the red-haired archer first seen in Woman Vs Wild – Episode 1, is Jacob’s daughter and the military commander of the Remnants.
Trinity
Trinity was mentioned by name in the 2013 game and some of its agents made an appearance in the Dark Horse comic series but it will finally come to the fore in Rise of the Tomb Raider. This ruthless organisation is described in Richard Croft’s audio records as “an ancient violent sect with designs on controlling the future of humanity”.
Konstantin
Thought to be the game’s chief antagonist, Konstantin was raised by the Order of Trinity and nurses a fierce – and dangerous – Messiah complex. Like Lara, he has his eyes fixed on a certain goal and will stop at nothing to achieve it.

I’m soooo excited about Rise of the Tomb Raider, but I know I won’t be able to play it until a GOTY edition comes out. Between the launching price, the DLCs, the micro-transactions… it’s just too much for me =/
It will be so difficult for me to avoid spoilers for (at least) an entire year!
Social media’s going to be a nightmare once the game is actually out.. :-/
YouTube is going to be a nightmare! But hey, the chicken bombs will make it totally worth the waiting for me!
Seriously, the chicken bomb should have been a default feature or something you can unlock. As far as I know, you have to get the Expedition Card in order to use it (I get the impression that the cards are randomized).
