Square Enix Confirms PC and PS4 Release for Rise of the Tomb Raider

Months of anger, rumours, and speculation have been put to rest as Square Enix has finally announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be coming to Windows 10 PC, Steam, and Playstation 4 next year.

No exact dates have been released at this stage but according to Square Enix, the game will be released on Steam and Windows 10 PC in early 2016 while Playstation 4 gamers will have to wait until “Holiday 2016”. This means Rise of the Tomb Raider will be a console exclusive to the Xbox One and Xbox 360 for about a year but, on the plus side, it confirms that the game is a timed exclusive after all.

There has been no word of a Playstation 3 or Mac release as yet and no further details regarding the Playstation 4 version are available at this point in time. A year may be a long time to wait for a game (especially in the age of online spoilers) but there’s always a chance that Square Enix will sell the PS4 version at a discounted rate and/or bundle it with all the relevant DLC to appease the franchise’s PS fanbase.

Things are certainly looking a little less grim now that we know that Square Enix hasn’t turned its back on the PC and Playstation fanbase entirely. And, as they say, “good things come to those who wait”. Let’s hope there’s some truth to that old adage.

Don’t forget that you have until 10th November 2015 to pre-order your copy of Rise of the Tomb Raider for the Xbox One or 360 over on Amazon and Amazon UK.

So, Raider fans, will you still be rushing out to buy an Xbox One in order to play Rise this November or will you be willing to wait for the PS4 version? What are your thoughts on the announcement? Is a year a long time to wait? Feel free to share your thoughts below!
