Game Informer’s recently-published Rise of the Tomb Raider Gear Guide has undoubtedly put a smile on the faces of countless Tomb Raider cosplayers and presented them with the challenge of finding (or crafting) Lara’s new outfit and gear in time for the next convention or fan meet-up.

The guide was created in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics’ Senior Community Manager Meagan Marie, who is herself an avid cosplayer, and is an in-depth look at the gear and clothing Lara will acquire and/or craft during her expedition to Siberia.
As we already know, Lara will have at least one type of bow with her (including a beautiful Byzantine recurve bow that I wouldn’t mind owning myself) as well as her trusty ice axe, leather quiver, green jade necklace, and combat boots. The guide also shows that she will have a Russian Nagant revolver and glow sticks at her disposal. New to the Tomb Raider franchise are the Soviet tactical knife (which will serve as a multipurpose tool and allow for close quarter takedowns) and climbing carabiners.
The guide also reveals that Lara will have at least two new outfits in addition to the red climbing outfit seen in the recently-released concept art and screenshots: 1) one consisting of an olive military hooded jacket, grey infinity scarf, and desert sand cargo pants and 2) one consisting of cargo pants and a charcoal grey racerback tank top with a built-in sports bra.
Here’s what the Rise of the Tomb Raider’s Art Director Brenoch Adams had to say about Lara’s new character design:
“Lara’s character design in Rise of the Tomb Raider continues to use natural materials and earth tones in an effort to further evolve the style developed in [Tomb Raider 2013]. Each piece of clothing design and gear is telling her story, so it is important that every aspect reflects her, and her surroundings. Lara’s jacket was not tailored for her, so she must adapt the material using ties and overlapping material for a more efficient fit. The tank top has been altered into a racerback for freedom of movement while climbing, and her pants streamlined to provide enhanced agility….Lara’s look will continue to evolve, however the core aspects will remain intact to reflect who she is meant to be; The Tomb Raider.”
So it seems that while Lara may be better prepared for this adventure (her red climbing outfit suggests that she had given some consideration to her sartorial choices), she will still need to rely on her wits and instincts in order to survive in Siberia’s icy wilderness.
